Hi Noel,
the main purpose of this article is that the School Captains often reflect the culture of the time, and often do very interesting things with the rest of their lives.
Probably my main question would be what was Edmund Barker’s family background, and what career did he have.
Thanks for responding.
I didn’t know Ed all that well I guess, only that he lived in Primbee and as a result, caught the same school bus as I did. I may be wrong but at the time of his death, I believed he worked for an insurance company.
Dear Noel
I was boy captain in 1960, after that went to the ANU to study Asian Studies, became an Australian diplomat with the then Department of External Affairs, was postd three time to the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, and retired in 2003 after serving as Australian Ambassador to Myanmar (Burma). Our family still has a house in Kiama, but our original farm, “Kaleula”, is now Beachside Estate. I am currently Vice President of Kiama Aloine Club. Pearl Wilson from the Kiama Historical Society is our aunt. This is all too late for your purposes, no doubt.
Trevor Wilson
Thanks Trevor,
Basically the idea is to collate this sort of information over time, you have led a very interesting life, after School Captain of Kiama High, which vindicates the idea for this forum!
Hi kiama high I hope hamish is doing well and josh Bridger good luck in year 7 have fun
Hi. I was a student from 79 – 83. I think it would also interesting to include photos and encourage feedback from the dux list.

P.s Sadly our wonderful captain and gorgeous man, Justin Wallace, passed away piloting a plane or helicopter.
Hi, Just doing a bit of research and found this site. Doug Hazleton was captain in my senior year. Unfortunately, he died in a car accident the year after he graduated. I was senior prefect in 1962. I am not sure how many of us from that year are still going. There have definitely been a few of us who have “dropped off the perch” as it were. I have retired – sort of, on a hobby farm with a few animals, out near Stockinbingal.
I was girl captain in 1964 and after leaving school trained as an art teacher. My first appointment was Forbes High School where I met and married the phys ed teacher. We taught there for another year then left for the USA so my husband could pursue graduate studies. Four years later we returned to Melbourne where I resumed teaching and he took up a university post. Post children I returned to study at Monash and became an adult ESL teacher finally retiring from it all at the end of the 90s. We now lead a busy “retired” life filled with volunteering and grand parenting in beautiful Bayside Melbourne.
Does anyone remember a anneternete kloeans in senior 1962? She was a dutch orphan
